Job Description - Automotive Salesperson

The Salesperson sells new or used automobiles, trucks and vans on premises of vehicle sales establishment. The salesperson is directly responsible for selling vehicles at customer satisfaction standards. Greets customers on sales floor and determines make, type and quality of vehicle desired. Explains features and demonstrates operation of the vehicles in the showroom or on the road. The Salesperson suggests optional equipment for customers to consider. Computes and quotes sales price, taxes, trade-in allowance, license fees, discounts, and requirements for financing payments of vehicles on credit. The salesperson arranges for delivery and registration of sold vehicles. Keeps abreast of new products, features, accessories, etc. and their benefits to customers. Introduces customers to the service department personnel to emphasize to customers the quality and efficiency of the dealership's service operations.


  • Welcoming customers and listening to their needs, approach and assist new customers that enter the dealership lot
  • Determine the needs of the customer by listening and asking questions
  • Perform walk-around with customer and demonstrate features of suitable automobiles
  • Create a great vehicle delivery experience for the Customer and effectively close automotive sales
  • Ensure the customer understands the vehicle's operating features, warranty and paperwork
  • Maintain an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat business and referrals
  • Reports to the sales manager regarding objectives, reviews, analyses, and planned activities
  • Setting and achieving targeted sales goals
  • Attends training and sales meetings offered by the dealership and manufacturers to gain superior product knowledge to effectively help Customers
  • Review sales statistics and actions to determine how to better utilize time, plan more effectively, and improve sales
  • Providing an exceptional customer experience to drive loyalty
