Ranked 4th in the Northeast:
Ski Lifts Soar above other Resorts with the help of Wind Energy
Readers of SKI Magazine rated Holiday Valley Resort as the 4th best winter resort in eastern North America. This survey was mailed to 40,000 SKI Magazine readers at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season. This ranking places Holiday Valley among the top ten in the East for the 6th consecutive year. Some of Holiday Valley's features that were highly ranked include, Après Ski (3rd), Dining (4th), Family Programs (4th), Service (6th), Off Hill Activities (6th), Terrain Parks (7th) and Total Satisfaction (8th). It was their Lifts placing (2nd); however, that really gave them a soaring score placing them 4th Overall. Holiday Valley's lifts continue to rank at the top of the list thanks to an efficient lift layout, excellent maintenance and continual reinvestment.
One very green investment is their purchase of wind and renewable energy credits to offset 100% of the electricity needed to operate their 13 lifts for the season. Wind energy lowers the impact of climate change by changing the way energy is produced by converting non-polluting, clean, renewable wind energy into electricity. You won't see windmills at the top of Holiday Valley, the wind energy is generated at wind farms across the country. Holiday Valley's President, Dennis Eshbaugh said, "At 750 feet, Holiday Valley is the only resort in the top 10 with under 1500 feet of vertical drop, which means what we lack in height we make up in quality, services and facilities." This is an important investment into the future of Holiday Valley, the ski industry and our environment.
Resorts that led Holiday Valley were (1) Mt. Tremblant in Quebec (2) Smugglers' Notch in Vermont and (3) Stowe in Vermont.
