It's no suprise that Motor Trend Car of the Year is the . . .
2010
Motor Trend on Tuesday named the 2010 Ford Fusion its "Car of the Year." The award marked the second consecutive year that Ford Motor Co. claimed one of the influential magazine's top honors. Last year, the 2009 F-150 pickup claimed "Truck of the Year."

This year the Ford Fusion midsize sedan beat out 22 other contenders, including the new Toyota Prius, Nissan 370Z and BMW 7 Series. Members of the magazine's editorial staff told The Detroit News they were impressed by the improvements Ford has made to every aspect of the Fusion since it debuted in 2005. "Ford has proven its resilience in these tough times by delivering to market a car with broad appeal to a broad range of consumers," said Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief Angus MacKenzie. Despite one of the worst markets in automotive history, the Fusion has set a new full-year sales record this year, gaining market share and becoming the best-selling car from any U.S. automaker.

Deals of the Decade!

Attention Shoppers! New cars are more affordable than they've been in years! According to Comerica Bank's Auto Affordability Index, it now takes the average family 21.9 weeks of income to pay off an average-priced vehicle. Sadly, that's not because household income has risen, but because the average cost of a light vehicle has dropped to $25,500. Comerica's data comes from the third quarter of 2009, which of course included Cash-for-Clunkers. However, while analysts say that C4C did impact prices, auto affordability had been improving long before the federal program kicked in. Customers are now paying less for vehicles than they have since early 2004. [PRNewswire]

Rebirthing a Barn: Can't ever get enough of those Before and After Shows? Well here's your chance to see up close and personal the transformation of the old Trade Co. Building. Located in Lakewood, NY you will now find the renovated building a sight both inside and out! It has been given new life while keeping intact its historic character: from the old Packard Car Lift, to the stables below and the massive barn beam ceilings above. Many of you have journeyed with us taking weekly if not daily trips by the renovation. We saw just how many people are as passionate about its history and rebirth as we are. With this realization, we are opening our doors to the community on Sunday December 27th 2009. We are asking a $5.00/per person donation to tour the entire complex, and we will gift it all back to the Lakewood Development Corporation. The LDC gave our project $5,000 to help with the extensive renovations. Hopefully this event will bring needed funds to their grant program and support more local businesses in pursuing their dreams.
Inside you can meet the passionate team of builders and designers who made this all possible. You can also tour the original basement stables, a 1600 sq/ft Retail space, a 1800 sq/ft loft townhouse and the private residence of the developer. Both the Retail and Townhouse are currently available for rent, but probably not for long. Hot dogs and refreshments also available.

For some, the furnaces will soon release their first warm blasts of air. For, others the it's already begun. Whatever the case may be, the quality of the air you are breathing is worth considering. Hear are some ways to improve the quality of the air in your home:
- Cultivate your green thumb. Indoor plants are capable of removing pollutants such as formaldehyde and benzene from indoor air. Some plants that are particularly adept include peace lilies, Boston ferns, and English ivy.
- Use gentle cleaning products. Simply switching to cleaners that are free of toxic chemicals and allergens can make a difference in your indoor air quality.
- Get rid of mold. Damp, poorly ventilated spaces are a breeding ground for mold. Use dehumidifiers to reduce the moisture level in areas for your home that are prone to mold.
- Remove dust. HEPA ( high-efficiency particulate air) filters can remove a tremendous amount of airborne particles. A vacuum cleaner or air purifier with a HEPA filter will help.
