Americans lag in basic maintenance of their vehicles, survey finds
Many Americans let basic maintenance practices slide--until they become a problem, according to a recent survey.
Think you're a good car owner? Think again. A recent survey shows that 90 percent of Americans think they do everything they can to keep their cars in top-notch shape, but far fewer actually take some of the basics steps of proactive maintenance. A survey conducted in July by DriverSide.com/Kelton Research found only 41 percent of respondents followed the scheduled maintenance plan from the manufacturer, 31 percent wax regularly and just 16 percent repair dents and scratches in a timely fashion. Other bumps and bruises such as windshield cracks and warning lights can lead to much larger problems but are often ignored by drivers. All of this results in diminished values and a decrease in the quality of ownership, DriverSide CEO Jad Dunning said.

Results: Cash for Clunkers
A HUGE WIN FOR THE ECONOMY!

The Car Allowance Rebate System, which wrapped up this week, took nearly 700,000 clunkers off the road!
More than 690,000 rebate applications worth nearly $2.9 billion were submitted by dealerships before the program's deadline of Aug. 25th. Congress had approved $3 billion to run the program.
"This is a win for the economy, a win for the environment and a win for American consumers," DOT Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement. "Manufacturing plants have added shifts and recalled workers. Moribund showrooms were brought back to life and consumers bought fuel-efficient cars that will save them money and improve the environment. "This is one of the best economic news stories we've seen, and I'm proud we were able to give consumers a helping hand." Preliminary reports from the White House Council of Economic Advisors projected that the CARS program will rev up the country's third-quarter economic growth due to increased auto production to replace depleted inventories; and will create or save 42,000 jobs in the second half of 2009. Detroit automakers Ford and General Motors already announced that the program generated demand for their automobiles and that they will ramp up production in the third and fourth quarters to meet the demand. Honda also said it will be increasing production at its U.S. plants in East Liberty and Marysville, Ohio and in Lincoln, Ala.
THE STATISTICS
Toyota logged in the most new vehicle sales at 19.4 percent, followed by General Motors at 17.6 percent; Ford, 14.4 percent; and Honda at 13 percent. 84 percent of consumers traded in trucks and 59 percent purchased passenger cars. The average fuel economy of the vehicles traded in was 15.8 miles per gallon and the average fuel economy of vehicles purchased is 24.9 mpg. - a 58 percent improvement, according to the DOT.

New Technology Brings us Back to Basics
Start your day in the right way by filling up your tank with the fuel you and your family need!

Summer has come and gone, and it's time again for the "September Scramble" - that time of year when we have to get everyone (including ourselves) back in the routine of getting up early, ready and out the door...all before our coffee has had a chance to kick in. While it's so easy to skimp on breakfast when you're rushing, it's the most important meal of the day. So here is a new technology that can actually help us get back to basics. The Back to Basics' Egg-and-Muffin Toaster and Egg Poacher ($29.99 at Amazon.com). It perfectly poaches an egg, toasts bread or english muffins and heats up a slice of turkey bacon in under five minutes!
Invest in your health and try something new. |
